How To Install Windows XP Using CDROM On A PC Which Already Have Windows Installed

Many times we face problems related to Windows XP operating system. Most of the times Windows XP gets corrupted and we have to take our computer to repair shop which cost much money. Today I’m going to explain how to reinstall Windows XP using Windows XP installation CD.

This Tutorial shows how to install Windows XP on an Old PC, which already have Windows installed on it. If you are installing Windows XP on fresh PC, you can check this tutorial. First, you have to setup your PC to boot from CD drive, click here to know.

After setting up your PC to boot from CD, follow these steps-

Step 1

Restart your PC. If you have successfully setup the BIOS to boot from CD/DVD, you will see option to boot from Windows installation CD/DVD. Press any key when you see Press any key to boot from CD/DVD…”, this will start Windows XP installation on your PC.

Step 2

Now Windows will start loading required files. After loading you will see screen showing options like ‘Press Enter to setup Windows’, ‘Press R to Repair’ etc. Press Enter to continue installation of Windows XP. Press F8 to accept license agreement when prompted.

Step 3

If you already had Windows XP installed on your PC, you will see options about repairing the previously installed Windows XP. But as we are installing fresh Windows XP on this PC, press Esc key to continue fresh installation of Windows XP.

If you don’t have any previously installed Windows on your PC, you may proceed to next step.

Step 4

Now you will see list of available partitions of your hard disk drive. Just Delete Windows partition, which is usually partition C” of your hard disk and create new RAW partition by following on screen instructions as shown below. After creating partition, select newly created partition and press Enter.

Choose Formatting option for your selected Partition. If you have created a partition of about 30GB or more, you have to format this partition using NTFS file system. Because FAT file system supports only upto 30GB. Choose suitable option and press Enter.

Step 5

Windows will format the selected partition and copy Windows files to this partition.

After copying files computer will restart and Windows setup will be loaded. Windows will keep installing programs automatically.

Fill required details asked by Windows like activation key, usernames, date-time settings etc.

If everything completed successfully, you will see “Thank you!” screen. Click Finish button in the bottom-right corner to continue.

Step 6

If you successfully completed above processes, your Windows XP will be installed and you can now eject Windows CD from CD ROM and proceed installation of drivers and other programs on your PC.
