How To Show Warning Message On Windows Logon

This Tutorial shows, how to show a warning message to any user while he try to login to Windows. This becomes more useful when single computer is shared between many people. Some users mess it up. So it is better to show them a Logon Message, “Use this computer in a proper manner” or “Authorized Access Only” etc. You can set the message according to your requirements. This trick is useful for computers used in Cyber Cafes, Banks, etc.

BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHILE PLAYING WITH REGISTRY EDITOR, MESSING WITH IT IN WRONG WAY MAY HARM YOUR COMPUTER BADLY!

Follow these steps to show a warning message on logon screen

Step 1

Open Registry Editor (Press “Windows Button + R” and type “regedit“, then press Enter).

You may see User Account Control prompt, click Yes to continue.

Step 2

Registry editor will open. In The registry editor, scroll down to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Winlogon“.

Step 3

Right click on LegalNoticeCaption, click Modify,

Type: “THIS IS WARNING MESSAGE!“, and then click OK. You can also type your desired Caption here.

Step 4

Right click on LegalNoticeText, click Modify,

Type your Warning message in the box and click OK.

Step 5

Now, Restart Your Computer.

You will see warning message on logon.
The message will appear every time you start your computer!

Now, everyone who will try to login into your PC will see this message. You can set Warning message according to your requirements. If you want to stop showing warning message, just go to same location in registry editor and reset the values of both LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText to blank.
