How to Reset User Password on Windows XP without Current Password

This guide shows you, how to reset any user’s password on your computer running Microsoft Windows XP, even if you don’t know the current password. You can also reset your password in the Control Panel but for that, you will require your old password. Or you may want to change your Windows XP password after someone has changed it and luckily you found the system unlocked.

Reset the Windows XP User Password

As mentioned earlier, you won’t need to remember the current password of the user but make sure, you have logged in already. After that, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open Command Prompt

Press “Window Button + R” and type “cmd” and press Enter. This will open the Command Prompt window.

Step 2: Open User Accounts from CMD

In the Command Prompt type “control userpasswords2” and press Enter. This will open the User Accounts applet.

Step 3: Reset User Password

A new window will pop up. Select the user whose password you want to change and press “Reset Password.”

A new Popup will appear, where you can type your new password. See, there is no space to enter the current password. It means you don’t need to know the current password to reset the selected user’s password. Type your new password twice and click on OK.
