How To Upgrade Windows 7 or 8 To Windows 10

This tutorial shows “how to upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10.” Usually upgrade is required when you don’t want to lose your existing programs and settings and just want to install higher version of Windows over current version of Windows. “Upgrading to Windows 10” is even easier than previous versions of Windows. You don’t need to provide much details. Now let’s see what hardware you should have in order to upgrade to Windows 10. Well, nothing much is required. You should have following hardware in your PC.

System Requirements:

  • Processor: 1 Gigahertz (GHz) or faster.
  • RAM: 1 Gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit Windows
  • Free hard disk space: 16 GB or more.
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver.

You will also need Windows 10 Bootable USB or DVDYou may also want to Download Windows 10 ISO.

Now Let’s Start:

Step 1

Insert bootable USB or DVD into your PC and open it. It should automatically launch the setup.

If it doesn’t launch setup, open installation media and click on setup.exe application.

You may see User Account Control Prompt, click Yes.

Step 2

Setup will prepare Windows files.

Windows will now ask you to get important updates, click on “Not right now” and uncheck “I want to help make the Installation of Windows better“, then click Next.

Windows will get files ready for installation.

Step 3

Accept License Agreement.

Now, you will see options, where you can change what to keep. Click on “Change what to keep“.

Select what to keep and click Next.

You will now return to previous screen, click on Install to start installation and upgrade your existing Windows to Windows 10.

Windows 10 upgrade process will start extracting files. Once 100% is complete, computer will restart.

Step 4

Windows 10 upgrade process will start. This process includes three parts, in the first part it will copy files.

After copying files, it will start Installing features and drivers.

Third step of Windows 10 Upgrade process is Configuring settings. Once it’s done, your PC will restart.

Step 5

Windows 10 upgrade is almost complete. Now login using your old username and password and click Next.

Now, you need to “Customize settings”.

Turn off first three switches and click Next.

You can leave rest of the settings unchanged. Just click Next.

You will see “New apps for the new Windows“. You can change default apps if you want, click Next.

Step 6

Windows will finalize settings and get the apps ready.

This is it. You will see Windows 10 desktop.

Windows 10 upgrade process is now complete. You have successfully upgraded your existing Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10.
