Microsoft has made Windows 10 easy to use and easy to synchronize your PC with your Phone. Using Windows Phone Companion, you can synchronize your photos between your PC and your Phone. You can do many more things using Phone Companion, but in this tutorial we will show you, “how to synchronize photos between Windows 10 PC and Phone.” You can use Windows Phone, Android or iPhone/iPad for synchronization. It is not limited to Windows phone only, Microsoft has made it cross platform for making it easy to use.
This tutorial shows you how to setup Phone Companion in Windows 10 for Android Phone.
What do we need:
- Windows 10 PC
- Android Phone
- Internet Connection on both PC and Phone
This includes two processes, one for Windows 10 setup and other for Phone setup.
Let’s first setup Windows 10 for Phone Companion-
Click on Start button and type “phone companion” without quotes, and in the search results, click on Phone Companion.
Windows Phone Companion application will start. You will see which type of the phones you can connect to Windows 10 PC using Phone Companion. Click on your phone type, in my case it is Android.
Now, you will see what you can sync with your Phone. You can choose whichever you like, but here we are going to see how to sync photos between PC and Phone, so we will choose OneDrive in Phone Companion window. Click on Get started button below OneDrive icon.
It will ask you about your Microsoft Account. You must be logged in with your Microsoft Account to use this feature. If you don’t have Microsoft account, you can create one here. Click “Yes, this is me!” button to continue.
Phone Companion will ask you to download OneDrive application on your Android Phone. If you have not downloaded it already, you can download it now. You can also send a direct download link to your Phone by entering your email address and clicking Send button. Click Next button to go to next step.
It will ask you to log in with same Microsoft Account on your Phone or Tablet. Tick the check-box next to “I’m signed in to the OneDrive app on my phone or tablet” and click Next.
Next, it will ask you to turn camera uploads on, on your Phone. Tick the check-box next to “I turned on Camera upload in the OneDrive app on my phone or tablet” and click Next.
You have completed Phone Companion setup on Windows, click Done to return to Phone Companion application.
You can continue setting up other utilities or exit Phone Companion.
Now it is time to setup your Phone.
Go to Play Store and download Microsoft OneDrive application to your phone.
After installation, open OneDrive. It will ask you for your Email Id, enter your Microsoft Account’s email ID. You have to use same Microsoft Account on both PC and Phone. Tap on Arrow button after entering Email ID.
Next, you will sign in to your Microsoft Account. Enter your credentials and tap on Sign in to continue.
OneDrive is now ready to be used. We will turn Camera uploads on, if not turned on already. Tap on Settings-
In Settings, you can see Camera upload is already turned on. If it is not turned on, you can tap on it to change settings. You can now exit OneDrive app.
Now open your Phone’s camera and take a picture.
After saving the picture, go to OneDrive app. You will see that same photo has been uploaded to OneDrive.
Remember, you must have active internet connection on both your PC and Phone to make this work.
Time for a check:
Go to Photos application in your Windows 10 PC. You can do this by clicking Start button and then selecting Photos app from Start menu.
In Photos, you will see that the same photo, that you have taken by your Phone’s camera, is already present in your Photos.
This synchronization becomes very useful when you reset your Phone and loose all your data and photos from your Phone. Or someone deletes your Photos by mistake. Phone companion will automatically save your photos on your PC, you can always access them from there.
