Synchronization of files using OneDrive is easy in Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 as they already include OneDrive on them. But in Windows 7 there is no such feature. It means you can neither login to your Microsoft Account on Windows 7 nor you have OneDrive preinstalled on it. Synchronizing Windows 7 files requires installation of OneDrive on it. Luckily, Microsoft provides OneDrive for Windows 7 (Previously known as SkyDrive). You can download and install OneDrive on your Windows 7 PC and synchronize your files with other Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 PCs. Even you can sync your files with your Android, Windows Phone or iPad/iPhone device.
This tutorial shows how to sync your photos and files between your Windows 7 PC and Android Phone.
What we need:
- OneDrive for Windows 7. You can download it from here.
- Windows 7 PC
- Andoid Phone
- Internet Connection on both PC and Phone.
- You must have a Microsoft Account to login with. You can create one here.
First download OneDrive on your Windows 7 PC. After downloading OneDrive, go to Downloads Folder and double-click the downloaded OneDrive setup file. A confirmation dialog will pop-up, click Run to install OneDrive on your PC.
You may also see User Account Control Prompt, click Yes to proceed.
OneDrive will be installed on your Windows 7 PC.
After installation, OneDrive setup will start. Click on Get Started to continue.
Now, sign in to OneDrive using your Microsoft Account. If you do not have a Microsoft Account, you can get one here. Enter your email and password in the boxes provided and click on Sign In button to continue. You can also signup for Microsoft Account using the link Sign up now below password entry field.
Next, you will setup your OneDrive folder. You can leave it to default or you can change it by clicking Change button. After you have made changes, it will show you path of your OneDrive folder, click Next to continue.
Choose what do you want to synchronize, Tick the check-boxes next to desired folders.
You must tick the check-box next to “Sync all files and folders in my OneDrive” in order to sync your Photos with your Phone.
After making selections, click Next to continue.
We are almost done with the configuration, tick the check-box next to “Let me use OneDrive to fetch any of my files on this PC”. This option comes very handy when you are away from your computer and you need some files that are stored on your computer. We will discuss it in another tutorial. Click Done to finish the setup.
Now, it’s time to setup OneDrive on your Android Phone to sync photos with PC. Go to Play Store on your Android Phone. If you are using Windows Phone or iPhone/iPad go to their respective stores and download OneDrive app.
After OneDrive is successfully installed on your Phone, open it. Enter your Microsoft Account’s email ID in the box provided and tap on Arrow next to it.
It will take you to login screen where you have to login with same Microsoft Account using which you have logged into OneDrive on your Windows 7 PC. Enter Email ID and Password and tap on Sign in.
Now, change upload settings in OneDrive on your Phone. Tap on Settings and Turn Camera upload on if not turned on already.
We are all set now. Take a photo with your Phone’s camera.
After saving the photo, go to OneDrive app on your Phone. You will see that photo is being uploaded to OneDrive. Let it upload first.
Note: you must have internet connection on your Phone as well as Windows 7 PC, otherwise photos will not be synced.
Go to your Windows 7 PC. In the Taskbar, double-click on OneDrive tray icon, it will show you OneDrive status whether it it up to date or not. If it is not up to date, check your internet connection. And if it up to date, click on Open your OneDrive folder link to open OneDrive folder on your PC.
In OneDrive folder, open Pictures folder and then open Camera Roll folder. In Camera Roll folder, you will find all your photos that you have recently taken with your Phone’s camera.
Not only photos but you can also synchronize any file between your PC and phone. You can synchronize files between PCs also. Just install OneDrive on both PCs and Sign in with same Microsoft Account on both PCs. Your files will be synced automatically using your internet connection.
