AI-Based Google Lens Now Available For All Android Devices

Google has introduced the Google Lens at I/O 2017. Later, the Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL became the smartphones featuring Google Lens. Google Lens was not available for normal Android users but now Google has officially announced that the Lens feature will be available for all the Android users via Photos app. The Photos app is a proprietary app from Google offering unlimited cloud storage for storing standard quality photos and videos.

Google also announced that the users will start receiving update in the next few days, which will enable them to use the Lens via Photos app. The iOS users will also receive update in upcoming week.

Before this announcement from Google, XDA-Developers had released a customized version of Google Lens app which could be flashed using custom recovery like TWRP.

The AI-based Google Lens app from Google helps to get information on the wide-range of objects and places. Google has used AI technology get information on objects, buildings and products. Similarly, the company is working on newer algorithms to distinguish between different animals. This is definitely going to help the tourists, who are often in new places and may want to get information about different places, animals and heritage buildings. However, Google Lens may not work on everything.

Main Features of Google Lens

  • Identify the type of flowers in the picture
  • Provide details about the show or movie in the picture
  • Providing information about a hotel or restaurant
  • Getting contact details out of a document or visiting card

Google has restricted the Lens feature to English language users for now. Maybe Google will roll out of the feature for the other language users in future. The users with flagship smartphones will also receive camera-based Google-lens and the Google Assistance app in the coming weeks. However, Google has not announced any exact time frame regarding the roll-out of the features.
