Video calling apps like FaceTime, may finish your data plan earlier than expected. This may cause troubles specially when your data plan is already running short. Besides iOS 13’s Low Data Mode, it’s a good idea to keep track of FaceTime data usage to avoid problems.
Fortunately, you can reduce cellular data usage on iOS using simple tricks. For example, you reduce stream quality of Apple TV app and even keep an eye on how much cellular/mobile data FaceTime uses on your iPhone.
Keeping Track of Data Usage
You can check FaceTime data usage in 3 simple ways – 1) using the Settings app, 2) using the Phone app, and 3) using the FaceTime app. You can view the overall data used by the FaceTime app and data used during a particular FaceTime video/audio call. Let’s check all three methods in details.
A) Check Overall FaceTime Usage in Settings App
Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on Cellular or Mobile. It will take you to Cellular or Mobile page where you can check overall mobile/cellular data usage of any app in your iPhone.
Now scroll down and find FaceTime app. Here you can see how much data FaceTime has consumed while you were using your mobile data. You can see the data usage right below the FaceTime app.
NOTE: The data usage stored in Settings app automatically resets when iOS version is upgraded. It can also be reset manually by tapping on the Reset Statistics.
B) Check Usage Data in the FaceTime App
In the FaceTime app, you can check the data used during a particular call. Simply open the FaceTime app and follow these steps.
Open the FaceTime app on your iPhone. And tap on the “i” button next to a contact’s name. This will open contact card of selected contact.
In the contact card, you can check the total data used during the call along with the date and time.
C) See FaceTime Usage Data in the Phone App
Just like the FaceTime app, you can check FaceTime data usage in iPhone’s Phone app. Just follow these steps.
Open the Phone app on your iPhone and select the Recents tab. And look for the contact that has “FaceTime Audio/Video” written below it’s name. Then, tap on the “i” button next to the name/number.
Contact card of the selected contact will open. Here, you can see the date/time of the call along with the data used during the call.
