How To Use ‘Your Phone’ App To Connect Phone With Windows 10 | Text From Your PC

Microsoft has been testing ‘Your Phone’ app for Windows 10 users for a while and it’s finally out. Unlike previous ‘Phone Companion‘ app, this app allows you to read your phone’s text messages on your Windows 10 PC. All you need to do is download this app in your Windows 10 PC and connect your Phone with it. Microsoft has already started rolling out this app to Windows Insiders but if you are not a Windows Insider, you can still download this app from Store.

Your Phone app gives you instant access to the photos and text messages from your Android/iPhone. Take a picture on your phone and see it on your PC. Now you can text your friends, group message and type with a keyboard. Your Phone app allows you to view, send, and receive the SMS from your Android Phone, on your computer. This tutorial shows how to connect your Android phone with your Windows 10 PC using ‘Your Phone’ app and access photos and text messages stored on your phone.

Currently Your Phone app supports phones with Android version 7 or higher. So, you need to have an Android phone running Android Nougat 7.0 or higher.

Text from your PC & Access Photos – Connect with ‘Your Phone’ app

Step 1

If you are part of Windows Insider Program, you probably have received Your Phone app in recent updates. If you have not received this app yet or if you are not part of Windows Insider Program, you can download this app from Microsoft Store.

After installing app, open it. Click on Sign in to sign in with your Microsoft account. You might have to signup for Microsoft account if you don’t have one. After signing with your Microsoft account, click on Continue.

Step 2

Click on Yes to provide necessary permissions to Your Phone app on your Windows 10 PC. Next click on Link phone to link your Android Phone with your Windows 10 PC.

Enter your phone number after selecting your country code to send a message to your phone with a link to download the app on your phone. You can now close the setup by clicking Close button.

Step 3

Now check your phone and click on the link received in text message. You will be redirected to Play Store to download Microsoft Apps on your phone. Install the app and Open it.

On the first screen, check the box next to My PC is ready and tap on Connect my PC button. On the next screen Sign in with Microsoft account and tap on Continue.

Step 4

After signing in with your Microsoft account, it’s time to setup app permissions. Allow Microsoft Apps to access your photos, messages, contacts etc in order to show them on your Windows 10 PC.

After setting up all app permissions, pull down your notification panel. Here you will see a notification asking you to allow permission to connect with with Windows 10 PC. Tap on Allow to continue.

Step 5

Now you can access your recent photos and recent text messages on your Windows 10. Your Phone app also allows you to send messages to your contacts. Click on + New message button to send message to any of your contacts.

Start typing your contact’s name and select desired contact from search results. Next, type your message and click on Send button to send your text message.

Step 6

You can continue sending more messages to same contact by typing the messages using your keyboard. In this tutorial I have sent message to my own contact number to verify if it’s actually working. I received the message on my Android phone. Check the screenshot below:

You can also manage Your Phone app’s settings to allow or disallow access to your photos and messages.

Your Phone app gives you flexibility to type messages with keyboard, pen device or even you can dictate the message using your microphone. However, Microsoft Apps on Android is available for the phones running at least Android Nougat 7.0 or higher. Hope you like the tutorial and Your Phone app. You can report issues and bugs in feedback hub on Windows 10. Enjoy, have fun!
