BlueStacks allows you to play android games on your PC. It uses system resources to run android apps smoothly. BlueStacks assigns the CPU and RAM depending on the available system resource. Sometimes, assigned resources are not enough to run it smoothly. So, you can increase the CPU cores and RAM manually to solve the hanging problem in BlueStacks 5, 4 & 3.
Heavy Android apps require more RAM to run. And can easily hang BlueStacks if it has less RAM assigned to it. You can check currently assigned RAM size of BlueStacks in Settings. So, in this tutorial, we are going to shows you how to increase CPU and RAM in BlueStacks 5, 4 & 3 to make it faster. However, there are several other factors affecting BlueStacks’ performance, you can check them here.
A) Increase RAM and CPU in BlueStacks 5
Unlike the previous versions, it is quite easy to change RAM in current version of BlueStacks. You don’t need to play with Windows Registry anymore. Just head over to BlueStacks settings and assign desired amount of RAM and CPU. However the process is slightly different for BlueStacks 5, BlueStacks 4 and BlueStacks 3. Let’s check for BlueStacks 5 first.
Step 1: Open BlueStacks 5 Settings
First of all, click on hamburger icon at the top bar of BlueStacks 5 and select Settings.
Step 2: Increase CPU in BlueStacks 5
Now, you will be on BlueStacks 5 settings page and on Performance tab. Here, click on the drop-down menu under to CPU allocation and select desired value. You can also select Custom to assign CPU in BlueStacks 5 manually.
Step 3: Increase RAM in BlueStacks 5 to Make it Faster
Just like CPU, you can also increase RAM in BlueStacks 5. Click on dropdown under Memory allocation and select desired value. You can also select Custom (MB) option to manually allocate RAM in BlueStacks 5.
Step 4: Save Settings and Restart BlueStacks
After increasing the RAM and CPU in BlueStacks 5, it’s time to save the settings. So, click on Save Changes button at the bottom.
Now you will see a pop-up asking for confirmation. Click on Restart Now to save the changes and restart BlueStacks 5.
Now, you have successfully allocated more RAM and CPU to BlueStacks 5 manually. Now let’s move to BlueStacks 4.
A) Increase CPU and RAM in BlueStacks 4
There are slight differences in BlueStacks 5 & BlueStacks 4’s GUI and Settings screen. Here are the steps for BlueStacks 4.
Step 1: Open BlueStacks 4 Settings
After you have successfully started BlueStacks 4, click on hamburger menu on the top bar and select Settings.
In Settings, select Engine tab from left and scroll to Performance section. Here you can see the amount of system resources assigned to BlueStacks.
Step 2: Change CPU and RAM in BlueStacks 4
Next, select CUSTOM option from CPU and RAM drop-downs. After that you can manually increase or decrease CPU and RAM in BlueStacks 4.
Step 3: Save Settings and Restart BlueStacks 4
After making required changes, click on SAVE button at the bottom right corner. Please note that the changes you made will only be effective after you restart BlueStacks.
B) Increase RAM and CPU in BlueStacks 3
After you have checked the steps for BlueStacks 5 & 4, let’s check how to increase RAM and CPU in BlueStacks 3. Process is quite similar but there are slight changes.
Step 1: Open BlueStacks 3 Settings
First of all, open BlueStacks on your PC. After BlueStacks has loaded fully, click on gear icon at the top right corner and select Settings to open BlueStacks settings.
Step 2: Increase RAM in BlueStacks 3
Now select Engine tab from left. Here, you will see how much resources are assigned to BlueStacks currently. On Engine tab, you can change RAM assigned to BlueStacks. Move the slider to right to increase RAM in BlueStacks. You can also move the slider to left side to reduce the size of RAM assigned to BlueStacks.
Step 3: Increase CPU Cores in BlueStacks 3 to Make it Faster
Besides RAM, you can also increase CPU cores in BlueStacks to give it’s performance a boost. Select the number to cores you want to assign to it from CPU cores drop-down.
Step 4: Restart BlueStacks 3
After you increase the CPU cores and RAM in BlueStacks, it’s time to restart BlueStacks to make the changes effective. You will see a Restart button at the bottom right-corner, click on it.
Change RAM and CPU cores to Speed Up BlueStacks 5, 4 & 3
You are advised not to assign more than 50% of your Computer’s RAM if you have 4GB or less RAM as it may lead your computer to unstable and hanging state. For instance, if you have total 8GB RAM in your PC, you can easily assign 4GB RAM to BlueStacks and it is more than enough. Same is the case for CPU cores. Do not assign all of your CPU cores to BlueStacks, 50% is good.
