Speed up BlueStacks 5, 4 & 3 without Hanging PC

Despite continuous improvements in BlueStacks’ performance and user experience, some users still complain that “BlueStacks feels slow” or “BlueStacks lagging in Windows 10“. However, the users on older versions of BlueStacks face more performance-related problems. In worst cases, BlueStacks can even hang your PC unless you increase RAM and CPU to speed up your BlueStacks 5, 4, or 3.

First of all, we suggest the users upgrade to the latest version. With the release of BlueStacks 5, most of the performance-related issues have been solved. However, if BlueStacks is still hanging your PC, there might be several factors affecting the performance.

This tutorial shows, how to speed up BlueStacks and run BlueStacks without hanging your PC. This tutorial works for BlueStacks 3, BlueStacks 4, and BlueStacks 5. Let’s continue with the steps.

1) Increase RAM and CPU to make BlueStacks Faster

If your computer has plenty of resources, you can allocate more RAM and CPU cores to BlueStacks to make it run smoother and faster. In older versions of BlueStacks, you had to make changes to Registry in order to increase RAM.

However, in BlueStacks 3, BlueStacks 4, and BlueStacks 5 you can directly increase RAM and CPU core from BlueStacks’ Settings to speed it up. Make sure to restart BlueStacks to make changes effective. Check the following tutorial.

2) Enable Virtualization in your Computer

Enabling Virtualization technology will make BlueStacks 3 & 4 run smoother and much faster. Most of the CPUs these days support Virtualization technology. However, Virtualization is disabled by default and you have to manually enable it.

You can enable Virtualization on your computer by going to BIOS settings and speeding up BlueStacks. The method for going to BIOS settings differs for every PC manufacturer.

How can I find out if my PC supports virtualization?

You can download and run a free utility provided by your PC’s CPU manufacturer. The majority of CPUs are of two types: Intel or AMD. 3) Check if your Antivirus is Slowing Down BlueStacks

Sometimes Antivirus programs that use Virtualization technology, acquire resources that are necessary to speed up BlueStacks. This may make your BlueStacks laggy.

Especially if you are using Avast Antivirus, BlueStacks may lag even more on your system. Follow these steps to change settings in Avast antivirus and make your BlueStacks 5, 4, or 3 faster.

  • Go to ‘Settings’ of Avast-Antivirus as shown below.

  • Click on ‘Troubleshooting’ on the left side, uncheck the ‘Enable hardware-assisted virtualization’ option, then click ‘OK’ to confirm and reboot your PC.

4) A Few More Things You Can Try to Speed up BlueStacks 5, 4 & 3

By now, your BlueStacks should have become fast. However sometimes despite having done all good settings, a few things make BlueStacks run slow. You can try a few more settings to make BlueStacks 5, 4, or BlueStacks 3 faster:

Keep your graphic drivers updated

It’s a good idea to keep your Graphics driver updated. Sometimes old and obsolete graphics drivers cause BlueStacks to run slow or laggy.

You can update your graphics driver from Windows Update or download the latest version of the Graphics driver from your PC’s manufacturer’s website.

If you are using a dedicated Graphics card, don’t forget to install the latest driver for your dedicated graphics card. This will make your BlueStacks 5, 4, or 3 run faster and smoother and improve your Windows performance.

Close Applications that are using more Resources

Sometimes running multiple applications simultaneously makes BlueStacks run slow. If some resource-heavy application is already running with BlueStacks, it might cause lagging in BlueStacks. Plus, it may also hang your PC. So, it’s a good idea to close resource-eating applications while you are using BlueStacks.

You can close applications running in the background using Task Manager. Open Task Manager, in the Processes tab, right-click on the application that is using more resources, and select End Task. Ensure you save all your work before killing any application to avoid data loss.
