How to Increase RAM and CPU in BlueStacks 3 & 4 to Make it Faster

Despite continuous improvements in BlueStacks’ performance and user experience, some user still complain that “BlueStacks feels slow” or “Bluestacks lagging in windows 10“. However, the users on older versions of BlueStacks face more performance related problems. Users are suggested to upgrade to newer version i.e. BlueStacks 3 or BlueStacks 4 to benefit from substantial improvements in app compatibility, performance, new features and bug fixes. The latest release of BlueStacks is always available on official website If you’re experiencing lag during game play on BlueStacks 3, here are some solutions that you can try.

If you are using older version of BlueStacks, you can try this tutorial to increase RAM and improve it’s performance.

This tutorial shows how to make BlueStacks 3 or BlueStacks 4 faster or how to speed-up BlueStacks 3 or BlueStacks 4 in Windows 10. Follow these steps:

1. Enable Virtualization on Your Computer

Enabling Virtualization technology will make BlueStacks 3 & 4 to run smoother and much faster. Most of the CPUs these days support Virtualization technology. However, Virtualization is disabled by default and you have to manually enable it. You can enable Virtualization on your computer by going to BIOS settings. The method for going to BIOS settings differs on every PC manufacturer.

How can I find out if my PC supports virtualization?

You can download and run a free utility provided by your PC’s CPU manufacturer. The CPUs are majorly of two type: Intel or AMD. Both of them provide free utility to help users check if the CPUs support Virtualization technology. You can download Virtualization Detection Utility from the links below:

Intel | AMD

How can I enable virtualization, if available but disabled on my PC?

The process of enabling Virtualization technology is different for different processor types. You can check this detailed tutorial on how to enable virtualization in your PC.

2. Increase RAM and CPU to make BlueStacks 3 & 4 Faster

If your computer has plenty of resources, you can allocate more RAM and CPU cores to BlueStacks to make it run smoother and faster. In older versions of BlueStacks, you have to make changes to Registry in order to increase RAM, but in BlueStacks 3 and BlueStacks 4, you can directly increase RAM and CPU core from BlueStacks’ Settings. Follow these steps:

  • Run BlueStacks, click on gear icon on top-right corner of BlueStacks window and select Settings.
  •  In Settings, click on Engine on left side. It will show you current values of allocated RAM and CPU cores. Move slider to adjust RAM size allocated to BlueStacks.
  • You can also increase CPU cores by selecting number of cores to allocate to BlueStacks from drop-down list next to CPU cores.
  • The changes we made, require BlueStacks to be restarted. After increasing RAM and CPU cores, click on Restart Now to restart BlueStacks.

BlueStacks will restart. Now BlueStacks will run faster with more RAM and CPU cores. You are advised not to assign more than 50% of your System’s resources to BlueStacks to avoid hanging problem in Windows.

3. Check if your Antivirus is causing BlueStacks to run slower

Sometimes Antivirus programs that use Virtualization technology, acquire resources that are necessary for BlueStacks to run smoothly. This may make your BlueStacks laggy. Specially if you are using Avast Antivirus, BlueStacks may lag even more on your system. Follow these steps to change Settings in Avast antivirus and make your BlueStacks 3 & BlueStacks 4 faster.

  • Go to ‘Settings’ of Avast-Antivirus as shown below.
  • Click on ‘Troubleshooting’ on the left-hand side, uncheck the ‘Enable hardware-assisted virtualization’ option then click on ‘OK’ to confirm and reboot your PC.

You should experience BlueStacks running a lot faster and smoother after changing this setting.

4. Few more things to try

By now, your BlueStacks would have become really fast. However sometimes despite having done all good settings, a few things make BlueStacks run slow. You can try few more settings to make BlueStacks 3 or BlueStacks 4 faster:

Keep your graphic drivers updated

It’s a good idea to keep your Graphics driver updated. Sometimes old and obsolete graphics drivers cause BlueStacks to run slow or laggy. You can update your graphics driver from Windows Update or download latest version of Graphics driver from your PC’s manufacturer’s website. If you are using dedicated Graphics card, don’t forget to install latest driver for your dedicated graphics card. This will make BlueStacks 3 & 4 run faster and smoother and will improve your Windows performance as well.

Close Applications that are using more Resources

Sometimes running multiple applications simultaneously makes BlueStacks run slow. If some resource heavy application is already running with BlueStacks, it might cause lagging in BlueStacks. It is a better idea to close resource eating applications while you are using BlueStacks. You can close applications running in background using Task Manager. Open Task Manager, in Processes tab right-click on the application that is using more resources and select End Task. Make sure you save all your work before killing any application to avoid data loss.

Speed up BlueStacks by increasing the RAM and CPU Cores

By following above steps, you can make your BlueStacks 3N & BlueStacks 4 run really fast. Hopefully lagging issue in your BlueStacks is now solved. If you are still using old version of BlueStacks, you can try this tutorial to increase RAM or even better, you can upgrade to latest version for great gaming experience on big screen. Enjoy, have fun!

  1. Thank you Aslam! I could not figure out for the life of me why increasing my CPU count in BlueStacks would actually make it BlueStacks WORSE until I found out it was the Avast antivirus hardware-assisted virtualization feature thanks to you! ❤
