How to Remotely Access Your Computer and Files using TeamViewer
Cloud storage like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive is a good option to keep your files always available to you. But if you need to remotely access files on your home computer while you are in the office or vice versa, you can use TeamViewer.
TeamViewer is a remote support tool that is available for free for personal/non-commercial use. So, it will help you set up your computer to be accessible over the internet without much trouble. After that, you can access your computer and files remotely using TeamViewer.

Access Your Computer and Files Remotely using TeamViewer
So, in this tutorial, we will show you how to access files on your PC remotely using TeamViewer. The TeamViewer is mostly used for taking remote control of computers for troubleshooting purposes via the Internet.
You can also set up TeamViewer for unattended access. Unattended Access means, you don’t need to call somebody to tell you the TeamViewer ID and Password to connect.
Step 1: Install TeamViewer on Target Computer
First of all, we need to install TeamViewer on the computer that we will access remotely. Eventually, we will have to install it on both computers. But first, let’s install TeamViewer on the target computer.
You can download TeamViewer from the official website. After downloading, double-click the downloaded file to run the setup.
When TeamViewer setup starts, select “Installation to access this computer remotely (unattended)” and “Personal/Non-commercial use“. After that click Accept – finish to start the installation.
You may see the UAC prompt, just click Yes to continue. Now, the actual TeamViewer installation will start. Please wait while the setup installs TeamViewer on your PC.
Step 2: Setup Unattended Access to Remotely Access your Computer
After TeamViewer installation is complete, setup for Unattended Access will start. So, click Next to continue.
Next, set a fixed password that you can use for accessing your computer remotely. After that, click Next to continue.
In the next step, you will be asked to create a TeamViewer account. You may create or skip creating a TeamViewer account. If you don’t want to set up a TeamViewer account, just select “I don’t want to create a TeamViewer account now” and click Next.
Finally, you have successfully completed the unattended access wizard. Note down the ID shown in the box. You should save this ID on your phone or write it down somewhere.
You are going to need this ID to access this computer remotely. After that, click Finish to exit the unattended access wizard.
Now you can close TeamViewer. You will see a pop-up saying that TeamViewer is still running in the background.
NOTE: You have successfully configured your home computer to be accessed remotely. Now, for smooth remote access, your computer must be Powered ON and connected to the internet. If you can’t keep it turned ON always, you can try Wake on LAN/WAN to turn it on when required.

Step 3: Install and Open TeamViewer on your Current PC
In order to access your home PC from any other PC, you need to install TeamViewer on that computer. This time, the installation will be a bit different. You just need to select “Basic installation” and “Personal/Non-commercial use” and click Accept – Finish to continue.
Again you may see the UAC prompt, click Yes to continue installation. After clicking Yes, setup will install TeamViewer on this computer. After successful installation, TeamViewer will start using which we can remotely access your computer and the files stored on it.
Step 4: Remotely Access your Computer using TeamViewer
Now, enter your home computer’s ID in the box under Partner ID, and click on the Connect to Partner button.
On successful connect, a password prompt will appear. So, enter the password that you have set up in Step 2 and click Log On.
On successful connection to your computer, you will see the lock screen just like you share screen on Zoom or Microsoft Teams. After that, log in with your credentials to access your computer and files remotely.

Step 5: Remotely Access and Transfer Files using TeamViewer
You will see the TeamViewer bar at the top of the screen. You can see several options there. So, to start file transfer, select File transfer > File transfer to exchange files between the two computers.
A file transfer window will open. You will see two panes, one for the Local computer and the other for the Remote computer.
The Local computer is the computer that you are currently using and the Remote computer is the target computer.
Now, browse to the location of the file you want to transfer using TeamViewer. After that, drag that file to the Local computer side. The selected file will be copied to the Local computer.
It may take some time to copy files from the remote computer to the local computer depending on your internet speed and file size. After copying, you will see that file in your Local computer pane. Similarly, you can also transfer files from your local computer to a remote computer.
Now, you can close TeamViewer. Go to the location where you have copied the file. You will see that file there and you can use it as you wish.

Access your Home Computer and Transfer Files Remotely using TeamViewer
This method comes very handy when you need to get some files from your home computer while you are working in the office and vice-versa. However, you need to install TeamViewer on both computers.
